Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Nvidia Drivers.....

Hi all

I have managed to install the latest kernel, Fuse, NTFS-3g, Xvid, and latest Nvidia drivers.

I have followed the intructions from Nvidia.com and Opensuse.

My hardware is

Intel C2D E6400
MSI P965 Platinum mobo.
8800 GTS
Audigy 2ZS
2 Gig A-Data Ram
2 Sata hd and 1 IDE-Drive

My Question is this.

How do i change the Vesa Frame buffer to an Nvidia Frame buffer?

Also when i playback avi files it looks pastaley? I suspect it is the above where the framebuffer is vesa and not nvidia, this is what is mainly holding me back from leaving windows behind. Games work great tho, but glxgears sucks tho..

Anyhelp would be greatly appreaciated

With the nvidia proprietary drivers, you don't want built-in framebuffer support. If the question is how to change video DRIVERS from vesa to nvidia, that is specified in the xorg.conf file. In the Device section, the Driver line should read 'nvidia' and not 'vesa' or 'nv'.
If I've misunderstood, or if you are still stuck, please post again, and include the results of this command run as root:
Code:
glxinfo | grep direct
and paste your xorg.conf file in here too.
