Angry Nvidia Driver trouble

Hey guys, I am new to this forum, but what a great source of info! I am having troubles getting the Nvidia drivers to run without crashing my Xwindows. I am using Mandrake 9.0. I went to the Nvidia Linux driver section and ran NVchooser, then downloaded the correct files. I installed the kernel from a RPM and installed the GLX from a tar. Does this matter ? If I install both from a tar would i get better results ? here is the error I am getting:

Using vt7
ioctl FBIOPAN_DISPLAY: Invalid argument
(II) [GLX]: Initializing GLX extension

FATAL server error:
Caught signal 11. server aborting
X10: fatal IOerror 104

I am not sure if maybe I just have to emacs the XF86Config-4 ?

What think you ?

Thanks a bunch

There is a complete set of instructions included, concerning changing certain settings in the XF86Config-4 file. Have you made all the changes listed? If not, let me know, and I'll paste them here.
Using one from RPM and one from TAR *shouldn't* present an issue, but I couldn't say for sure. I'd do them both the same way, just to test.

It looks like the GLX isn't set up correctly, just from peeking at the error message. I'll go check some documentation, and see what I can figure out.
