now my problem is... when I change driver to "nvidia" and switch from root to my regular user the screen just stays black no nvidia logo or anything like they say it should be.
I read on a forum that you should do

Everything seems to work in #runlevel 3 that is,so it seems like the driver should be working properly But it just wont start x

Has anyone had this problem before ? or does anyone know a way to fix this ?
Ill try toi help you, but I cant quarantee anything as the problem is not known to me..
Could you please post the full contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log (or XFree86.0.log if you still use it) so we can have a look ourselves what actually goes on in the X boot.. Ofcourse you should attempt to start it first, then grab the log.
And one thing to try, can you start it as root?
Also upgrading to the latest drivers never hurts.. They update pretty frequently.

Went thru my Xorg log and the section that gets initiated right after GLX, is actually the mouse. (Could differ basing on your conf order) So, any chance you guys have the mouse settings down wrong, wrong dev or something like that?
I know that it would probablky then just complain about the mouse, but since the GLX init should be pretty trivial (if you actually do have a 3D capable vid-card?)
Just to make sure, youve done the modifications that are asked by the readme to do after the driver install?
These questions go out to all with the same problem..
I had a similar problem when I was running FC4, and it turned out it was because the X server was outputting video at an unsupported resolution and/or refresh rate.
edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to set the horizontal and vertical refresh rates to ones supported by your monitor. Also check the resolution.
In my case, it turned out to be related to selinux changes when upgrading from fc3 to fc4.
It was re-installing the nvidia driver with selinux enabled which caused the glx initialisation lockup.
The solution was to add selinux=0 to the kenel line in my grub.conf file & then re-install the driver.
I do feel a bit twitchy about leaving it like this though. But having said that, I'm wary that turning it on again as I was getting other avc errors during bootup which I never used to get with fc3...
Got same problem ; PC hangs afterwards. BUT... The problem is SOLVED now. The installation script doesn't work properly when run in an X terminal window :=(((( . It should be run on a text console. Use "ps -A" to get the process-ID of the X-server and kill him with "kill <ID>". If your PC locks up try ^C and <Alt> <F2> or <Ctrl> <Alt> <F2> to get a new console. Then log in as root and run the script. Reboot your PC after this as "startx" won't work. Good luck!!!
