New here. I have search the forum and found many people with similar issues on various version of various distributions. Actually too many so I was hoping somebody could help me home in on a solution that would likely work for me.

I have the following configuration:
GA-K8NS-939 Ultra
AMD 64 939 Venice 3200+
1GB RAM (2 512MB DDR400 184PIN DIMM )

2 160GB SATA Seagate Barracuda 7200.7s

I have installed KnoppMyth R5a16 and then followed that with a script to install the NVidia driveres. The script basically pulls the driver package from the nvidia site and then does some wonderful make magic and changes the XF86Config-4 file. At that point dully screen splashes the NVidia screen and then goes black. If I crank the brightness way up I can make stuff out. I am afraid I don't know enough about X or Nvidia or the make to know what I am really doing.

I have poked around in the XF86Config-4 trying various changes. Tried nvidia-settings utility but never got anything that could be called usable (way to washed-out and dark). Tried installing the 64 bit drivers but then I was told that the knoppmyth i686 install is 32 bit.

I wanted to try different depths and resolutions. So I tried using CTRL-ALT-+. Nothing happened. I manually change the default from 24 depth to 32 and it errored out saying no screens found, 32 no supported. 16 depth worked but can’t really say it looked any better.

Your help is greatly appreciated.
