NTP Issue with HP Hardware

Unable to synchronize with ntp server using a HP Proliant DL380 G4. Moved the disk to another DL380 V4 which was using the NTP server problem was resolved. Does not seeem to be a software issue but I was wondering if anyone was having similar issues with the Proliant DL 380 G4 hardware. Losing about 8-12 seconds per minute.

NTP sets the OS clock.

hwclock sets the system clock.

I've seen issues with this when system clock is out of sync with OS clock. You can use hwclock to sync it with the OS clock and this may prevent the issue from recurring. "man hwclock" will give you the syntax.

Note: Don't have the HP DL stuff so above is generic observation.

I have tried the hwclock and have gone as far as rebuilding the localtime and deleting the adjtime and drift rate. Same problem existed. I ran a cat on cpuinfo and noticed that the CPU Mghz listed did not match the cpu type it was severly off. I amm haing the CPUs replaced today. Thanks for the response and I will post on this is fixed.
