ntl broadband and linux
 
ok im a complete n00b to linux ive litrally not had it installed a full week yet however since day one ive not been able to access the net with my ntl:home modem it just hangs when i click enable device heres my settings

Red Hat Linux 9
Network adapter config
btw this is connected to ethernet and shows up has
3com3c501

IRQ = unknown
device=ethno
everything else = blank
dns
localhost.localdomain
rest = blank

Is it an internal modem? If so, could you post the output of lspci -v (as root).

Don't use the usb - I had problems with that. Use the ethernet connection.

Sorry I thought it was a traditional modem I didn't read your post very well. So it's connected to your eth0 interface? Have you actually configured the nic properly? Can you show me the output of ifconfig?

Try this command after resetting the power on the modem.

dhclient eth0

Post any error messages.
