Nouveau Acceleration Tips with RandR, dual-head?

I've posted before about my 2 card, 4 monitor setup. I've finally got the desktop to work with the following xrandr commands upon startup:

Code:
# Dual Monitors Implementation
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 1 0
xrandr --addmode DVI-I-1-3 1280x1024
xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1680x1050 --pos 1680x1024 --rotate normal --output DVI-I-1 --primary --mode 1680x1050 --pos 0x1024 --rotate normal --output DVI-I-1-3 --mode 1280x1024 --pos 400x0 --rotate normal --output HDMI-1 --off --output DVI-I-1-2 --mode 1280x1024 --pos 1680x0 --rotate normal
Great. For a reminder, here's my cards:

Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G92 [GeForce GTS 250] (rev a2)
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G92 [GeForce 8800 GT] (rev a2)
I'm using the nouveau driver, 1:1.0.13-1 in debian.

Everything is positioned correctly, but the problem is the screen tearing is basically unacceptable. I've seen mixed documentation out there that says 3d acceleration or opengl are out of the question with nouveau and xrandr. I think it's unique enough of a configuration that I'm having trouble finding concrete documentation.

Does anyone have any tips for improving accel in a setup like this?

Which desktop environment are you using? That may influence the 'user-experience' here. The driver configuration options are limited (refer 'man nouveau' for configuration options), but it may be possible to optimise the acceleration options within your DE.

I'm using AwesomeWM with MATE as the underlying DE, it's pretty light.

You might try adjusting your compositor settings. Some suggestions mentioned here.

This might also be worth a read...

That was it; I didn't have a compositor and compton did the trick, thanks so much!
