Not Working: Advent Webcam and Ubuntu


Hi
I have just got a Advent ADE-A1 webcam (1.3 mega pixel Laptop version) however it is not recognised by Ubuntu. Upon searching it looks like I am the only person in the world with this webcam let alone trying it with Linux.
Any ideas ?

Weird thing is that while 'lsusb' doesn't recognise it, it appears it's recognised if you look at your syslog/dmesg:

Vendor ID 0c45 means it's Microdia or equiv, maybe a Sonix sn9c-something chipset. (However the Product ID tag not listed at www.qbik.ch.) Is this a HP Pavillion by any chance? Anyway. I don't know if it's Video for Linux (V4L) or Video for Linux 2 (V4L2) capable, maybe try Luvcviewer and Camorama. If that doesn't work read http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=512059 down at " Sonix/Microdia Webcam".

If you do (or if you don't) get this cam to work, please add an entry in the http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/.

I could not get this to work so I have replaced the camera with a Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 as I know someone who has this working on Ubuntu.

3.1. Configuring Webcam Software
3.2. VLC
3.2.1. Using the GUI
3.2.2. Using the Command Line

And now my webcam runs!!!!! I'm very happy!!!
