Not listed saa713x based tv card, what to do?

I have download , compilled, installed the saa7134 drivers from the v4l page ...

http://linux.bytesex.org/v4l2/saa7134.html

They are detected and installed automatically by hotplug (auto model detection), my model is not listed in the supported cards ... (saa7134 is in /proc/modules)

But when starting tvtime I get a Input/Output error...

Testing *all* the cards ... [changing the module load parameter "card=#" in modules.conf or modprobing] ... *sometimes* works with LifeView FlyVIDEO3000 or LifeView FlyVIDEO2000 ... but wrong display is the result ... for example ... no-input "blue-screen" on input-select "TV" , and "random" ghost channel on "Composite". (I have nothing conected on composite !) ... and is really slow.

My card is a "generic" model say: !!!Kozumi TV TUNER CAPTURE CARD FM RADIO *KTV-01C*!!! ( it's a SAA7130HL , and other stuff RA7257,1 - KIG04181) it is NTSC-PAL M/N compatible) ther chip says ... 0414DTWR

Kernel not patched with V4L2 , using the kernel that comes with Slackware (few changes) bareacpi-i , V4L modules installed but no saa713 support

I buy the card BEFORE migrating to linux , when I don't care about if it should work on linux or not, it was not my priority when adquiring new hardware. But now it is. =)

The docs say ... "we don't have a lab with all the cards of the world to test, if your card is not listed, you should do something, you know the linux moto is 'do it yourself' " or something like ....

Where should I start to make my card work?

I really don't know what to do.

Please help.

Thanks.

Andres V.-

You will need to configure and compile kernel version 2.6.10 or later to get the card to work well. I suggest 2.6.11 or later because earlier versions had problems reading encrypted CD discs like games and problems writing to discs as a normal user. The kernel developers have said that in 2.6.11 or later it should work without any problems like in previous versions.

What I did in kernel version 2.4.26 with a SAA1733 based capture card is first I loaded up xawtv. It activated the card, but I told it to not display any video. Also, I told it to unmute the sound. Next I loaded up tvtime. This work very well, but it can be a pain to do. I wrote a script that loaded up xawtv first and then loaded up tvtime. When I got real annoyed by this tedious way, I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.10. It worked. I just load up tvtime or mplayer and it worked with out using xawtv. There is one problem, closed captions do not work. Since I have upgraded to 2.6.10, I have never seen any lines in the changelogs if closed captions works in later kernels. If I get pissed using root to make CD or DVD, I may upgrade to the 2.6.11 kernel.
