not able to show hardware details
 
hi,

i have cent os 5.2 64bit

i want to know my hdd details when i type

hdparm -I /dev/sda it shoiwng following error:

/dev/sda: HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Invalid argument

whts the meaning behind this error. pls help ASAP...

hdparm is for IDE/ATA drives. If you have an internal RAID controller like Dells PERC or if it is a SAS drive (common in laptops these days) or SATA it won't find it.

You might want to install sg3_utils and review man pages for the various tools it provides.
