Question Non rewinding tape device?

Hi, was wondering,

I have an internal DLT drive in my Redhat 7.3 system and am using "tar cvf /dev/tape ......" (/dev/tape is linked to /dev/st0) to backup files.

Was wondering how I would configure/use a non rewinding tape device, so I could have multiple files on one tape?

On AIX I would use /dev/rmt0.1 for instance.

Have tried using /dev/ntape (which is linked to /dev/st0m), but tar errors with the following...

tar: /dev/ntape: Wrote only 0 of 10240 bytes
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

Seems a simple problem, but is baffling me, I'm afraid.

Thanks

I think the device for non rewinding in your case would be /dev/nst0
