Non-FAT32 Bios Flashing
im planning to update my bios soon (this week), have read all the info the MSI website, and have the flash files.
-thing is, im using That Other OS and the section in the documentation concerning flashing using a non-FAT filesystem is vauge, and scary. it involved multiple floppy's (shudder) and moving stuff from the floppys to and from a virtual drive(shudder) in my ram (which will disapear on startup)(re-shudder) -to make matters worse MSI's What-To-Do-When-The-Shizle-Hits-The-Fan (Re: bios flashing) page, is offline, or no longer existant.. -I'm starting to get good at moving and copying and creating stuff through the consol, but the whole idea scares the hell out of me, probibly mostly because if i stuff it up, the computer doesnt work. i had hoped i could make a bootable cdr with a folder with the bios update stuff in it? not sure if this would work... dont understand enough (read: anything really) about iso's (also, is there some way i could make an emergency disc, with a copy of my current bios (which i know works) on it so if something goes wrong i can at least get things running again? has anyone here flashed this MB (or any, i guess the principal would be the same) on a non-FAT file system, can you give me any tips? Any assistance appreciated. |
I have read this link and it looks normal to me tho I have a gigabyte mobo.
http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_AMI.asp Naturally I am not referring to the in the MS world connect to msi site and use the on the fly technique I flash my reiser format drive not a worry but your msi link says do NOT do it if your computer is working |
I found another readme, one also from msi, but different than the one i was reading, same as you just posted :P seems much more straight-foward :P
it was working, but i wanted to overclock and had heard not to even attempt it untill you have the latest bios... that plus i was interested to see the new security options... not that impressive, but pretty cool for thier novelty: allows you to make the bios password needed before the computer will boot (if you choose to enable) didnt give me the voltage options i was after... but im working around it (adjustable rail psu) Thanks for your help |
