Wink No Wlan0 can't use wifi on linux

I have tried a few distros in Virtual Box and VMware. and none every see my wifi card. the virtual software detects it and windows/host can use it but linux never seems to see it. I tried the compact wireless package and it gets it to the point it shows wlan0 in Ifconfig but thats it i still cant connect to wifi then after i restart its gone. Any suggestions. Im currently using Lubuntu

Guests do not have direct access to hardware unless it is USB. When you configure the network for bridged or NAT (specifically in VirtualBox but WMware works the same) it will create a wired connection that connects to your wireless adapter. If you are using a USB adapter then you need to directly connect the device to your guest.

You need a suitable USB wireless adapter. I don't remember any particular make/model but should be easily found by googling.

Atheros-based chipset is your best bet.
