No wireless on Lenovo Thinkpad T450s

Hi all,

Trying to get my new Thinkpad T450s up and running.

Code:
# lspci | grep -i network
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7265 (rev 59)
I have the microcode (downloaded from Intel's website) in /lib64/firmware:

Code:
# ls /lib64/firmware/
3com adaptec advansys bnx2 bnx2x e100 iwlwifi-7265-14.ucode iwlwifi-7265D-14.ucode qlogic tigon
Module is loaded:

Code:
# lsmod | grep iwlwifi
iwlwifi 75448 0
cfg80211 190856 1 iwlwifi
But ip link doesn't report the existence of the wireless device:

Code:
# ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: enp0s25: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 50:7b:9d:14:66:2c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
iwconfig is not much help either:

Code:
# iwconfig
enp0s25 no wireless extensions.

lo no wireless extensions.
BTW:

Code:
# uname -a
Linux think 3.12.24 #2 SMP Tue Oct 6 20:04:11 UTC 2015 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5300U CPU @ 2.30GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
If 'ip link' doesn't show the wireless device, then I can't configure it using wpa_supplicant or dhcpcd. What's missing that I need to get the device to show up? Should I just upgrade the kernel? Any other thoughts?

Installing a higher version of the kernel may/may not provide support for your wifi card.
Not sure if using the modprobe command on the driver will help or not.
Best to wait for a member that knows

Agreed: you need to get the device to show up and I (think) modprobe might help with that.

Is this your machine?

What distribution are you running?

You need to examine your dmesg, there may be an firmware version mismatch.

Kernel 3.12 is rather old indeed and may not support your wireless card, I'm using 4.2.3 myself.
