no tuner for PVC-150?
I just installed a new Hauppauge WinTV PVC-150 in my Suse 10 box. Yast recognized it right away, but I noticed that when I tried scanning the channels, nothing would happen. After digging a little deeper, I found that, though Yast had recognized the card, it also says that no tuner is available for the card. I'm not even given the option of picking one. It looks like the right ivtv driver is selected (itvc16). Has anyone else had a similar problem with this card?
Also, one little question: MythTV asks for the video device. I'm assuming it's asking for /dev/video0. Is this correct for Suse 10? I can't seem to find it.

those cards are generally controlled using the ivtv driver, so make sure that's loaded via a modprobe. then check your dmesg output the see if it's OK with it. if it is you'd then have a video0 entry.

From looking at it, I have discovered I have an old version of ivtv. Getting the new one might help. Also, I probably need to upload the firmware. Any other tips?

For now stick with the ivtv versione. You will need the firmware for the card too. Then you need to pick a TV tuner model. I suggest using S-Video or composite to test the card instead of first messing around the tuner. When it works, you can then pick a tuner model. I suggest going through the list of NTSC tuners until the one works. If you have any problems, you may want to upgrade to the latest ivtv version. Use mplayer or xine to test the output of the card because it does output MPEG-1/MPEG-2 stream.
Go to
http://www.ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Main_Page
for more informaton.

Neither mplayer nor xine recognized my card (though I may have been using the mplayer commands wrong, I'm not sure) so I went ahead and downloaded the newest ivtv drivers. This is the new dmesg output:
ivtv: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag.

So it would seem my tuner is now recognized (TCL 2002N 5H (idx = 99, type = 50)), but the firmware files I downloaded are in the wrong place. I'll have to figure out where suse puts them.

Okay, I am now completely confused. I'm following the instructions for extracting the firmware files, and the ivtv howto says to run:
perl ivtvfwextract.pl
and the result is:
ivtvfwextract.pl: "/mnt/cdrom" not accessible
why is it trying to access my cdrom (which is at /media/dvd no /mnt/cdrom, anyway)?

When setting up mythtv for the first time, I kept detailed notes on every step.
This is the exact commands I entered, is this what you're doing?
Code:
$ tar zxf ivtv-0.2.0-rc3k.tgz
$ cd ivtv-0.2.0-rc3k/utils
$ su -c './ivtvfwextract.pl ../../pvr150250350_inf.zip'
I remember reading in the docs that the .pl script tries to grab the firmware from the windows install cd, and that there was something in the script you had to hand edit to prevent it from doing that.
