no sounds as user, but sound on root

hello, i am having problems with sound on my normal user accounts. when i log into root, i get sound. but the only way i can get sound is by typeing in "modprobe i836_audio" and that magicaly fixes it. i am on a k7s5a with a build in sis720 chipset. does anyone have an idea as to how i get this working on my normal user accounts. i have already tryed "su[enter] (my password)[enter] modprobe i836_audio[enter]" but still not luck on my sound. it comes up and said that /dev/dsp isnt there. when i login for a normal user, but when i login as root no error and it dsiplays sound, this is all while im in kde. do you guys have any thoughs? thanks. if i didnt answer something be sure to ask.

Adding:

/sbin/modprobe i836_audio

to /etc/rc.d/rc.local will load the module at boot time.

Add the users you want to have sound to the sys group using the usermod command.

Yeah, I can see how that could be a problem if you have a lot of users.

I found in another thread that:

chmod 0666 /dev/audio* /dev/dsp* /dev/mixer* /dev/midi*

lets everyone use sound.
