Lightbulb No Sound with VLC on SB0220 sound card

Hi,
I have ubuntu 6.0.6 and I had working sound. But after installing VLC I have lost it. I dont know what to do. I have tried re-installing VLC.

I installed VLC using the synaptic package manager using the following instruction on this link -> http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ubuntu.html

and replaced "edgy" with "dapper".

Could someone please assist me by giving me helpful suggestions.
Thanks,
-Tiepo

I have seemed to have corrected the problem by re-installing the alsa packages.
Cheers,
