No sound with Via 8235 and Slackware 12 [work around, using different card]

I just recently installed slackware 12. I have a motherboard with a Via 8235 onboard sound card. From the googling I've done, it appears most peoples solution entailed playing with the settings in alsamixer until they found what has worked. One was to mute everything except PCM and Master Volume. I tried that and it didn't work. I also tried turning everything up 100% and still no sound. I've toggled all the switches with no change. Here is the info.

I've tried everything I can think of and am out of ideas.

Hi,

You did run 'alsaconf'? Then run the 'alsamixer' and be sure to do 'alsactl store'.

Thanks for the reply. I had run alsaconfig and it found the onbaord card, and ran alsa mixer moving everything up to 100%, but it still didn't work.

This is my roomate's old motherboard and he isn't sure if the onboard audio actually works, as he used a PCI audio card. I decided to put the audio card in there and it works so I am content with that.
