No Sound With i810_audio

I posted this message earlier in the general forum, but it's probably more appropriate here. If anyone can give me any insight at all on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I own a Shuttle SS51G small form factor PC. It comes with onboard audio, SiS7200. There are no alsa drivers for this card, but upon inspecting the kernel drivers, the i810_audio driver apparently supports the SiS7200.

So I build the driver into the kernel and rebooted. Everything looks fine in the dmesg and in the kernel logs. However, I am getting no sound.

I am using S/PDIF for audio and I have a feeling that this is the reason. Is there something in Linux that needs to be turned on or enabled for S/PDIF to work?

I went through the i810_audio.c file for a minute, although I don't know a lot about C, and I couldn't find any comments about turning it on, although there is an entire block of code for enabling S/PDIF.

Right now I am trying to play an mp3 in noatun with artsd on, but esd also outputs no sound. I've been through the audio mixer to make sure the volumes are turned up as well.

Thanks.

Might be a mixer problem ...

Many cards default to boot muted.

Cheers,
Tink

I've actually checked the mixer, it's turned up. Speakers and sound card work in Windoze.

I used to own a Creative emu10k1, and Creative distributed a utility called emu-config that allowed you to turn on digital S/PDIF sound.

Is there a similar utility for the i810_audio driver, or does it not need it? Anyone with S/PDIF experience in Linux?

Thanks
