No Sound with HDMI

Hi,

I have recently installed Fedora 15 and I am having some issues getting the sound to work correctly.

I have a Sony NW20ZF Laptop with an ATI Graphics Chip which I have not installed the ATI Proprietary Software on as it seems to be working fine without, but when in sound setup I change the settings from using the Internal Speakers to using HDMI (RV710/730 Digital Stereo) I get no sound.

If I use Internal speakers then the sound works fine, anyone with any ideas?

Thanks,

You really might want to try using the ATI closed driver. As, from the look of things, your card/ system is not working correctly. With nvidia, I was never able to get HDMI sound working under Debian until I used the closed source driver.

Thanks that has solved the sound problem but has caused some additional issues.

1. Image during boot has switched to a low res image
2. Fn + F7 doesn't function correclty any more (switch between Laptop and Ext Mon displays)
3. Top of screen where Activities is has a rainbow affect and when I click on activities the icons in the Dock Bar look like 1980's untuned Tv's instead of having the correct Icons.

Seems to be bigger issues with ATI than using the Open Source Driver!

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Gavin,
