Question no sound output Asus P5B-VM DO; error with vlc with alsa-lib on OpenSuse 11.2

When I boot my Opensuse 11.2 the sound works properly but there is no sound when I try to play online videos. My motherboard: Asus P5B-VM DO Moreover, after I start several times vlc player it gives the following error message:
Quote:
VLC failed to initialize your sound output device (if any).
Please update alsa-lib to version 1.0.24 or higher to try to fix this issue.
after this error message there is no sound regardless whether I try to play music with amarok or vlc. Current version of libasound2 is 1.0.21-3.2
So I tried to update alsa-lib to version 1.0.23 (latest stable version) but to no avail.
When I search for alsa-lib or libasound under yast2>software management there is not the version 1.0.23 just libasound2 1.0.21-3.2 although I received no error messages after the compile process and the installation (I installed it according to the install file with "./configure" and then with "make install"). However, I'm not sure about the output "Nothing to be done for XX" of the command make install
E.g:
Code:
make[4]: Nothing to be done for `install-data-am'.
make[4]: Nothing to be done for `install-exec-am'.
I think my motherboard is supported, so I'm not certain whether I need to configure something in Yast2>Sound or whether I did something wrong with the installation of alsa-lib 1.0.23
What should I do so that I don't encounter any sound problems in the future?
If you need more data don't hesitate to ask but please include the appropriate command for it.

Today the sound and video configuration popped up and showed me the HDA Intel (AD198xAnalog) output device is not active because the driver for my sound card is not loaded 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller. First message when I boot up: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/232...unddevices.png Second message when I click on manage devices: http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/7069/...controlmod.png

When I looked in yast2>sound the sound card was listed and there was also the driver listed i.e snd-hda-intel. Thus I tried to enter the command modprobe snd-hda-intel as root in order to load the driver for my sound card, but I received following output:
Quote:
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.
WARNING: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop/kernel/sound/core/snd-page-alloc.ko': No such file or directory
WARNING: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko': No such file or directory
WARNING: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop/kernel/sound/core/snd-timer.ko': No such file or directory
WARNING: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop/kernel/sound/core/snd-pcm.ko': No such file or directory
WARNING: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop/kernel/sound/core/snd-hwdep.ko': No such file or directory
WARNING: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-codec.ko': No such file or directory
FATAL: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko': No such file or directory
Why wasn't this successful, what do I need to do to load the driver snd-hda-intel which is needed for the HDA Intel AD198xAnalog output device to be activated?
