No sound on intel 915G based motherboard with fedora core 3 alsa 1.0.9

Hi,
I am running Fedora core 3 on intel 915G based motherboard .. I have compiled alsa (driver, lib, oss, utils) and installed it.
But no sound comes out when I try to play some music and totem doesn't give any errors either.

Please tell me what the problem is.

My modprobe.conf is:

alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
# OSS/Free portion

open a terminal and run a program called alsamixer

select f1 and f2 for help / explanation when the application launches.

1. you need to basically select your tool (CD, etc) on the alsa mixer using the "left" and "right" arrows;

2. type "m" to toggle the control from "off" to "on" and

3. hit the "up arrow" to turn up the volume.
