Hi, I'm having trouble with my shuttle Barebone SS51G with sound. It doesn't work at all.
I've installed all alsa modules I could find on freshrpms.net.
Here is I hope some useful information:

These instructions can be found at als-project for SIS7012.
If anybody can help, it will be great (I've also read the other threads but this specific topic isn't treated and the proposed solutions don't work.
Is kernel-source installed and you have the link /usr/src/linux that points to it?
# Compiling/installing kernel modules
You will need to have installed:
1. The developmental packages (compiler)
2. The kernel source code that matches your running kernel
3. The module source or install code
Check out your system and look under the hood and see if you installed the stuff you need to do the job. Open an x terminal and type in this sequence of commands to see what kernel we are running and see if you have the kernel source installed:

I do have the same kernel version source code installed in the directory /usr/src/linux-2.4.18-3 and there is a symbolic link named linux-2.4 pointing to it.
If you don't see something similiar to this (but in color), you will need to install the kernel source.
NOTE: I noticed that Red Hat didn't make the symbolic link /usr/src/linux that all of the INSTALL files that I have read mentioned that I need, so I may as well make one now to save editing the files in the source code to install.So, I'll make it just now:

Yes, I have a compiler installed.
If you don't have those two things installed, you have to install them first off your install CD.
If they are installed, download the source and happy comiling. Make sure you carefully read the README and INSTALL files after extracting and before compiling/installing.
ALSA is muted by default. Did you turn up stuff with your mixer?

Does sndconfig tell you that your sound card is currently disabled?
If so, you need to either patch your kernel with the ACPI patch, or get the patch to kernel version 2.4.22 from www.kernel.org and compile that (I had trouble with the same sound card and that is what I did).
Once you've compiled the kernel, you should disable the ALSA service and edit your /etc/modules.conf to comment out all sound-related lines and add:
alias sound i810_audio
Reboot and you should hear sound.
If this stops your CD drive from working I can probably help you there too.
I have the same system except that I have added a different video card. Anyway, I had to go into the Preferences-Sound from the Redhat menu and select "Enable sound server startup" this was not selected by default.
Ok, I'm dumb stupid. Since the integrated Redhat sound detection system haddn't been working, I thought sndconfig would also fail.
Before going into re-compiling a kernel I fired an apt-get install sndconfig, launched it and all was detected immediately!!!
I having the same problem.
How ever I have it narrowed down to the web cam mic on your 740k
is the confict.
I you remove the cam your soud should work. (reboot/Choose Remove from boot up)
How ever I want my new audigy 2 sound to work with my camera. The best I've got so far is to
edit (vi /etc/modules.conf) and change alias sound-slot-0 audigy to alias sound-slot-1 audigy. this seems to load all sound properly in gnome without error. how ever still no sound. I think I have tell every program to use the 2nd mixer(/dev/mixer1) or some thing. Please email me if this helps
