No Sound in Debian With Intel Audio Controller

Hello, I recently installed Debian on my laptop and it no longer plays any sound (it worked fine under FreeBSD). I already checked much of the documentation and wikis related to this subject with no luck. The version of Debian is 6.0.2.1 and my kernel version is 2.6.32-5-686.
Code:

lspci|grep audio
returns
Code:

00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03)
Any help will be much appreciated!

You've tried alsamixer? If it's running Gnome it'll be using 'pulse' I think. You may run pavucontrol as root. You have got to watch this thing and make a note of what you change. It alters alsamixer setings often when you alter settings in pavucontrol this can lead to much confusion.

Hope helps.
