Exclamation no sound from sound blaster 5.1

i searched on and on for how to configure my sound card but didnt help
there are many posts regarding this but the problem is my external sound card is the default one and still no sound

[kantu@localhost alsa-driver-unstable]$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [CA0106 ]: CA0106 - CA0106
AudigyLS [Unknown] at 0x1040 irq 22
1 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xa3100000 irq 22
[kantu@localhost alsa-driver-unstable]$

it shows it as AudigyLS [Unknown] . why is this ? and how to configure ?

WHAT distro are you using ????
fedora,Ubuntu,Mint,Slack,suse,bsd,...???

If Fedora 11 then is is a bug in pulseaudio that the update of a few days ago should have fixed .

Take a look at

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ve-5.1-734408/

and apply the steps there - it might help.

if you are using fedora 11 then it is a BUG in fedora 11

this "might help " it is for fedora 10 , so it might not .It did not help me , but others have said it helped on fedora 11
http://fedoraunity.org/Members/fenri...archterm=sound
you might also want to go through the fedoraforum search for "sound"
