Hi.


I installed Mandrake 9.1 on a laptop with a VIA AC'97 sound system. I booted and there was no sound. I tried playing around with the KDE Control Center sound module to no avail. I could see my MP3s play in XMMS as the equalizer lights were flashing, but I could hear no sound. What can I say but..... HELP!!!!

One thing though - I installed the downloaded version of Mandrake 9.1. I only installed the content from the first CD cos I hadn't finished downloading the second ISO yet. Is that a cause of my problems?

Sorry all to trouble you..

I messed around with the Mandrake Control Center, found a troubleshooting guide and typed aumix to find that my sound system was muted.... problem solved.

But now, I get a distinct CRACKLING!! A sizzling sound whenever I play music or a sound plays. Does anyone know how to solve this?

I know I won't find the solution to this problem easily, as I've experienced it with SuSE 8.2 as well.

Can any of you pros out there spare a hand?
