I have added a basic Soundblaster SB PCI instead of using the on-board sound chip. Now I no longer have sound in Linux. I've tried checking the hardware config utility in MDK 9.1 - it detects a card there (CT5880).
Any advice (simple please - still a Linux newbie) on how to get sound from this d**n card, or do I have to go back to the on-board chip?
Perhaps the problem is that you have not fully disabled the onboard chip and its still trying to use it. Double check with your hard drive specs/manufacturer to be sure youve got the pin settings/bios settings all perfect or neither is gonna work.
On-board chip was correctly disabled. Problem solved now, though - after messing around with OSS/ALSA drivers and changing things around here, I finally checked aumix which I found had been reset to Mute All .... Unmute and all is now well again
