No sound coming from it
 

I just installed SuSE 9.1, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it detected all my hardware right away -- even the printer. Only problem is, even though the sound card was detected, as a CMI8738, the sound doesn't actually work. Linux thinks it does, apparently, but it doesn't. Any ideas?

(Keep in mind, although I have been working with Linux for several years, I'm a newbie in terms of I've never really learned anything in all that time. Mainly 'cause something would always go wrong and I'd give up trying to fix it. So please try to be nontechnical.)

Hi Octan, welcome to lq. If I remember correctly there are some mixer settings in yast, try unmuting or raising the volumes there. You could also try

lsmod

to see if the modules are actually loaded.
