No restart on a Dell 1u server

I have a (few) Dell servers about 100km away from me. All is well, but when I run a reboot (shutdown -r now, etc) the server doesn't come back up. It seems APM is not supported by BIOS, but ACPI is, is there something I'm missing? Someone suggusted ACPI=OFF or REBOOT=HARD in lilo.conf, is this a good idea, and if so which one should I use? It's really a pain to drive that far just to restart this server.
