no pcmcia controller found!
 

Hi all,

I am using Mandrake 9.2 (kernel 2.4.22) and for some reason it does not detect my pcmcia controller. I have also tried to recompile the kernel with pcmcia support etc but no luck.
In /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia there is the following single line:
PCMCIA=no

Also, yenta_socket etc are not loaded. There also is no /etc/pcmcia directory.

Any idea?

It really depends on your system. If you are running a system that the older kernel doesn't support, then it won't be detected. Try typing lspci to see what controller you have. Also, try installing the yenta_socket driver (I think it was available on that kernel).

I have tried loading the yenta_socket driver but it did not help.
My system used to work very well with Mandrake 9.1 (previous version to the one I am using) so my hw should not be the issue.
Regarding lspci it lists a generic controller which name I do not recall right now (I am recompiling the kernel so I cannot check at the moment).
Any idea on what might be wrong? How can I force the system to probe for the pcmcia controller again?

Not sure on that older version of Mandrake. If you have the bandwidth, why not download 2006? It has better laptop support (along with every othe enhancement since 9.x).
