No mouse detection in x86 ubuntu on a 64 bit hp

Hello!
I have a almost new hp pavillion pc, a6230n. It came with vista, and I am interested in configuring a dual or perhaps more than dual boot using ubuntu Linux 7.10. My computer has a althlon 64 x2 dual core 5600+, 3 gb ram, 400 gb sata hd, and two optical drives. I plan on adding another drive and installing a few distros on that.

However, my first interest is ubuntu. I have burned both the 32 and 64 bit versions of ubuntu 7.10 live cd. In demo mode the 64 bit cd works well, but whenever I use the 32 bit cd I have no control of my mouse. It just stays in the center of the screen and will not move. My main mouse is a wireless microsoft one, and I have also tried the mouse that came with with my computer, so it is not the mouse. (both are ps2 mice) both also work with vista and the 64 bit live cd. I have not installed either os.
My questions are that does using a 32 bit kernel on a 64 bit processor kill the mouse, or is it specific to me? Is there a way to fix it, or will it go away when I install? (if I can) I would like to install both versions for compatibility. How can I fix it? What kind of problem is this? Thanks in advance.
-Kyle

Edit: I plugged one of my mice into a USB port instead, and it worked. However, I found that the keyboard, which is ps2 is not working. That is strange, because it works in the boot menu. Why is Linux not detecting my ps2 ports? Also, I tested it on another live cd.
