Hi devrieshh, Welcome to lq. Several questions first. What type of connection do you have? Could you post the output from the following?

Code:
sudo lspci -v
sudo lsmod
sudo ifconfig -a
Good luck. ;-)

Just to clarify, there are two cards in the machine or two different machines? It makes a difference when dealing with a cable modem as it will bind to the mac address of a particular card.
Good luck. ;-)

If one of the boards has connected to the modem you'll likely have to pull the power to it to connect another one. Once you power back up everything you should be able to pull an ip from it.
Good luck. ;-)

asusfast ethernet etc... on the asus motherboard
sis900 on the asrock motherboard
by plugging in i connect them on the cable one at a time...

I understand, I believe the modem is binding to the mac address of the first card. If that is the case you'll need to power down the modem before switching boards/cards.
Good luck. ;-)
