No HDD found.

Just tried to install SuSE 10.1.

My ULi M1573's SATA controller is detected, but not the drive. (WD Caviar SE 250GB) I'm using it in a non-RAID configuration, if it could be of any help.

Is the drive listed in the BIOS?

Have you opened the box and checked the cable connection at the drive and at the controller? A loose connector will cause such a problem.

Windows does work. I got it to detect the HDD by reloading the sata_uli module, but, someone that has the same problem than me found that it's not enough. I need to reload linuxrc, and that other person is able to do it by crashing it, but my computer is too stable to do this...

i am experiencing a similar problem. i tried to install RHL - 9 on my Compaq Presario PC and got a msg "No Hard Drives detected". However Windows is running on my PC and when i tried to install Ubuntu-Linux for Human Beings, it detected the presence of the hard drive and showed the existing partitions.

I tried to find the HDD driver thru windows but got nothing matching with the manually loadable drivers in RHL that r listed during installation.

the hard disk in my PC is a SATA one and its number is WDC- followed by some numbers.

plz,can anyone bail me out from this predicament?

I have this same problem. I have some post on the justlinux forum and many seemed to agree that there may not be Sata II with 3Gb/s as of yet. I haven't confirmed this anywhere else yet though.

I can't post the link without having three posts so here is the title of the thread.

Simple thing... I enabled Sata RAID in the motherboard's BIOS. -> It enables the ULi chipset's own BIOS that is allowing Linux to detect the drives properly. I tried to install FC5 and got the same problem so I thought about that and it works.
