"No hard disks were found" during SLES 8 install

I am trying to install SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 8 on a new Dell PowerEdge SC1425 rack mounted server. During the beginning of the install, it analyses the system and comes to an error:

"No hard disks were found for the installation. Please check your hardware!"

I have verified my hard disk is functioning correctly.

My Dell server contains a 73 GB SCSI Ultra320.
This uses an Adaptec 39320 U320 SCSI Controller.
My Dell does not contain a floppy drive. It does contain a CD drive.

From research I understand the SLES 8 installation files do not contain a valid driver for this controller.

I have also tried installing SLES 9 and I get exactly the same problem.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

SCSI Disks

I have a compaq proliant 1600r rackmount server and various other "antiques" - I have installed many flavours of linux on them all and have experienced my share of trouble. Many distros - even those aimed at servers do not have SCSI support at all or lack the appropriate modules for your hardware. I advise you to plug in an IDE hard drive and try it - if it works I advise you to get a newer version or different distro
