You have a winmodem, where most of the processing is offloaded to the software, as opposed to a normal "hard modem", where the modem hardware does most of the processing and the generic Linux serial drivers work with it. Now, there *is* a Linux driver for that model, but it's a real pain to use (I know from experience - I bought one of these modems, but returned it because of the annoying drivers and because it would disconnect me for no reason every 5 minutes). I'd recommend just finding a different modem. Make sure it isn't a windmodem too.
