Not to tread on someone else's thread but I have a similar problem. Just installed Ubuntu 5.1 to a P4 3.0gHz, 1gig RAM, nvidia 6200 256meg vid card, 19"LCD. I removed Fedora Core 6 because of other issues, installed Ubuntu and ever since the video doesn't work. I can boot back into Windows XP and the video works fine. If I boot into recovery mode it will give me some squiggly fuzzy lines, then it goes blank. I have always used Red Hat til they peeved me after this last "update" of the hardware.
