No CD-ROM under devfs

It seems that after upgrading my system from Mandrake 8.0 to Mandrake 9.1 I am now using "devfs" which is great, but I no longer appear to have a CD-ROM!

Before I upgraded the CD-ROM was:

/dev/hdb

Seeing as it's the primary slave... under devfs, it should now be:

/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target1/lun0/cd

and there should be a /dev/hdb compatibility entry pointing to the above.

The problem is that neither of these exist!!! How do I get them automatically created under devfs?

Thanks!

I would start Mandrake Control Center->Mount Points->Set Where Your CD-ROM is Mounted. If your CD-ROM has been detected, it should show here, and you should be able to mount it here as well.

If you used the 'Upgrade' method when installing Mandrake 9.1 instead of the 'Install' method, I would consider backing up your data and doing a complete install of 9.1, overwriting the 8.0 files (but keep your /home directory). I have seen many references to the 'Upgrade' causing many problems, so most avoid it and start afresh with a new 9.1 system. Your situation may be a symptom of that sort of problem.
