[SOLVED] No battery power

Hello.
The computer won't turn on without external power. After connecting the ac power adapter, the computer turns on. Battery status shows 100% charged. The computer turns off when the AC adapter plug is removed. How to fix it.

That usually means that the battery is bad. You can try replacing the battery.
Does the same behavior happen if you are not booted into Linux? (For example if you are in the BIOS) if so then it's definitely time to change the battery.

yes, dead battery. I would remove it as soon as possible and also buy another one, if you want. But remove it before it damages your computer.

Not necessarily.
Some manufacturers have proprietary bricks - and force you to use them. Dell f'instance in the past would not charge if they detect a 3rd-party adaptor - or more correctly don't detect a "proper" one. Same thing happens if the (proprietary) brick has a problem. Guess how I know.

Hopefully USB charging will make this just another example of historical stupidity.

That is true and it also happened to me but the laptop would still power on. When I needed to charge the battery I used a different power adapter.

It is most likely a bad battery but it could also be something wrong with how the laptop monitors the battery status.

I agree that it's likely the battery.

If you decide to get a new battery, vet carefully sellers at internet resale sites. I've heard too many stories of persons who purchased inexpensive batteries on such sites thinking they were getting a bargain, only to find that they were getting used batteries near the end of their lives.

When I needed a new battery some years ago, I bit the bullet and got one from the computer's manufacturer. It was worth it to me to know I was getting the real thing.

Thank you very much for the suggestions.
I bought a new battery from a higher capacity store because the previous one was worn out.
In the first days, the battery ran out when working without a power adapter. After connecting the AC adapter, the battery was charged to 100%. Now also displays the status:

condition: charged
100% charged
84.2 Wh
10.8V
capacity 100%

I don't think the OP was successful. I think the replacement isn't working and could also be bad.

We need more information from the OP.

yes, battery should be first charged before usage, and also would be nice to know if it works at all (how long can it be used without AC adapter). OP will tell us the story. And if everything is ok please mark the thread solved.

As I wrote earlier, the computer does not work without a power supply. Battery 100% charged, this is what the software shows. Just the question of whether the battery status is really real or a bluff.

with died batteries the battery status is useless, that can show anything (fully charged or empty or whatever). Sometimes you can see it is "suddenly" charged within a couple of minutes or similar things, that means again it is not usable any more.

But as it was mentioned it can be the monitoring circuit too, or some other parts of the system.
