No access to cdrom

Just installed mandrake 9, and when logged in as non-root i have access to my burner and dvd, but i need to copy a file to a directory that i need root permission. When i log in as root, my burner, dvd and floppy are locked and i cannot access them ( logged in as root ).

What do i need to do to access them under root

thanks

From a command prompt if you type (as root)
<prompt># mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
what's the error message? and what is the contents of /etc/fstab?

does it say that its not a valid block device with a floppy in the drive? (cause thats bad). The supermount tag in your /etc/fstab file is something I'm a little unfamiliar with. (I don't use supermount myself).

Supermount is a daemon that runs on your machine and mounts / unmounts drives as they are needed (much like in windows). This way you do not need to invoke a specific 'mount' command everytime you wish to access your drives. If root is unable to access the drives through supermount then perhaps there is a supermount configuration that must be altered to allow root to use it. In the meantime root *SHOULD* be able to access the drives by issue the following commands...
(for cdrom)
mount /dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom -t auto
(for dvd)
mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom2 -t auto
(for floppy)
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy -t auto

looking at the mandrake forums it looks like this isn't the first time this has occurred... this might be of help:

hope that helps... let me know what your results are.

I found a way around it, when logged in as root i just went into the home folder then found the desktop links for my non-root folder and then added a short-cut to my /root desktop. May mot have fix the actual problem but at least it gets around it for now until i find a proper way to put links on the desktop for /root
