no 3D on Mandrake 9.0

I'm very new at Linux

Mandrake 9.0 found my Geforce 2 MX during the installation but it doesn't avoid 3D acceleration.
or better it says that I can use it using XFREE 3.xx but it's experimental

???

You need to download the drivers from nvidia.com and then edit your etc/X11/xf86config-4 file as stated in the readme.txt file available at the same website. Also, do a search for nvidia and 3-d and you'll find dozens of threads explaining what to do in more detail.

yeah well I have a geforce 4 MX 440 and its almost the same card....
go to nvidia.com and then download the .sh file
I renamed it to NVIDIA.sh
then reboot into textmode(runlevel 3)
login as root or login regular and su to root
then cd to the directy you downloaded the file then type sh nvidia.sh
then type startx and go find the readme .txt I think its in there /usr/share/doc/some wierd folder/ or on the web site
basicly you find the x86 config file and make sure that glx is loaded and dri isnt and the most important you driver is called nvidia not nv or vesa

hope it helped
