NN68-VS3 FX motherboard intergrated networking failed

Dual boot - Mageia3 64 bit/windows 7
AsRock NS3-VS3 FX
intergrated Realtek PHY RTL8201EL ( Listed as NVIDIA coporation MCP61 Ethernet in linux Mageia)

I have a N68-VS3 FX motherboard which for networking features an intergrated Realtek PHY RTL8201EL .I'd been using this motherboard for a while using various linux based operating systems and the network always just got configured auto on first install of the OP . Then the internet connection failed ( I think it was after I'd booted into windows then back into linux ) .

So I can connect to the internet using windows 7 with the intergrated network harddware but not with linux. ( ubuntu , Mageia etc ).It just keeps saying connecting .Though it used to work perfectly fine .

To temporarily get around this I installed PCI Express network adapter which works fine on both OP's .Though Ideally I need to free up that slot for a graphics card now and would like to get the intergrated network adapter functioning with linux again .

also the network light dosn't flash on the back of my pc when I plug the lead in as it used to .
If the newtworking was'nt running with windows then the evidence would suggest that intergrated networking is damaged .But since it does work perfectly normally under windows it has to be some software/driver linux issue surely ?.

I had a similar problem 3 years ago with my PC. The onboard ethernet port
is Realtek RTL8111. Booting between windows and linux would result in no
connectivity in linux.

I had to shut down, turn off PC and reboot. This allowed connectivity.
The only reason I could think of was that the "cold boot" reset the
ethernet hardware to default state.

However this was with an earlier linux 3.2 kernel. There has been no prolem
with kernels 3.6 onwards and later.
Other thing you could try is

sudo ip addr eth0 down

sudo ip addr eth0 up

This may work.

Hi and thanks for the reply ,

It's begun to work again .

Though it seems this may be related to a old bug in the system thus may happen again .
