Question NIC installation trouble

As a warning, I extremely new to linux - i know next to nothing.
I just installed RH 9.0, and am trying to get my NIC to work. I need to use DHCP.
my NIC is a RealTek 8029.
I read somewhere that I should instal it as a PCI NE2000 clone, so that is what I did, using neat, with DHCP enabled.
When i try to activate it, i get the following error:

Cannot activate device eth0!
Determining IP information for eth0......SIOCCIFFLAGS: Device or resource busy SIOCCIFFLAGS: Device or resource busy

I somehow came to the conclusion that this is a problem with the IRQ.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Regardless, I have no clue how to fix that.

Thank you for your help in advance.

update: i got the NIC to work (hard to believe as that may be).
In the BIOS, the OS was set to Win95 (this was an old computer taht used to run Windows). I switched it to Other, then the next time Linux started up, Kuzdu detected the NIC and configured it correctly.
