NForce2 SPDIF issue

Things are getting better for everyone these days with linux! its come a long way..

Ive got 2.6.4 up and running everything is just peachy except for one thing...

SPDIF output works, and the pitch is correct. ( i know the nforce has issues with 44vs48) But im getting crackling noises from the connection..

Any leads onto what this might be? IT doesnt seem to be affected by system load.

Ive got an abit nf7s 2.0..

Yeap get the latest kernel and compile with alsa support. or download the alsa stuff from alsa-project.org and compile it and install it.

once you get that going this file is nf7 specific for outputing stuff to spdif.

.asoundrc file:

cm.nforce-hw {
type hw
card 0
}

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "nforce"
}

0,0 is analog out and 0,2 is spdif out.

pcm.nforce {
type dmix
ipc_key 1234
slave {
pcm "hw:0,2"
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 4096
rate 44100
}
}

ctl.nforce-hw {
type hw
card 0
}

Now, use aplay or alsaplayer first, xmms u can use to output directly to spdif thru the alsa plugin.

Things are still a little shaky, but alsa is coming together and soon everything should work like a dream.

I am still looking for an answer to this quesiton:

Am I only going to get sould out of my spdif with using XMMS or watching a movie? I would like to get the system sounds and games, beeps, buzzes, etc. ALL sounds out of the spdif. Is this possible?

Thanks,

Bobby
