nForce not recognized

I have an nVidia Nforce interface in my motherboard, and I've installed the drivers for it. The Networking aspect of it works fine, but I still haven't figured out how to set the audio on it. The installer's Release Notes said to edit modprobe.conf, so i'm posting my config here as well. I'm not sure why it wont work. Do I have to comment out every line reffering to the old driver?

Code:
#alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 nvsound
alias snd-intel8x0 off
alias i810_audio off
install scsi_hostadapter /sbin/modprobe sata_nv; /bin/true
#remove snd-hda-intel /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; /sbin/modprobe --first-time -r --ignore-remove snd-hda-intel
#install snd-hda-intel /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-#install snd-hda-intel && { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; }
install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe ohci-hcd; /sbin/modprobe ehci-hcd; /bin/true
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
alias eth0 eth1394

Are you sure that the problem is with the NFORCE driver, or could it just be that your volume level is muted, or that the soundcard wasn't recognized?

Basically, if you've downloaded and installed the current NFORCE drivers, then the installation process will ask if you want to install the network driver and/or the audio driver. Assuming you answered Yes to both, and there were no errors thrown during the installation process, then presumably the drivers are OK.

Here's what I'd do: as root, run
Code:
alsaconf
which will look for and configure your sound card. (Make sure your speakers are plugged in correctly, the volume is up, etc). Next run
Code:
alsamixer
which will all you to adjust the various volume settings. (Use the right/left arrow keys to travel through the different settings and the up/down arrows to change the volume) Oftentimes the volumes are muted by default, so things may actually be working just fine, it's just that the volume is zero.

Good luck with it, please post back with your results

Well, I can't get into the mixer, so Of course its not muted, and the Sound/Ethernet interface is in the HardDrake menu, but under driver it says "snd-hda-intel".

I tried using alsaconf and alsamixer, but neither worked.

When I first Installed the nForce drivers, it prompted me to see the release notes to configure the sound. Under Mandriva, It said that HardDrake cannot configure the nvsound drivers. (I dont need the ethernet drivers; I use a wireless lan with ndiswrapper) Instead, the release notes had instructions to comment out the old drivers in modprobe.conf and then insert lines to start the new drivers at boot, and how to start the sound system manually. I still have no sound and when I try to run nvmixer, I get this error message filling up the whole command prompt's window:
Code:
$ sudo nvmixer
Nvsound: Unable to open the Mixer
Nvsound: Unable to open the Mixer
Nvsound: Unable to open the Mixer
Nvsound: Unable to open the Mixer
Then the mixer opens, but even moving the volume sliders one pixel gives the error:
Code:
Volume set failed.
