newest nvidia drivers on mandrake 10.1 problem

Hi all,
I just installed Mandrake linux 10.1 on my new built pc, that has a nvidia 6800LE, card in it. But the problem is I can't get the driver to work. I searched all over these forums, and found a lot of helpful information but nothing has fixed the problem. I downloaded the driver, downloaded the kernel sources, quitted x, and installed the driver, that worked fine. Then I modified the /etc/X11/XF86Config file, and just as the instructions on both nvidia's website and this forum dicated, i made sure there was no load DRI or load GLcore in the file and that there was a loadGLX. I then changed Driver from "vesa" to "nvidia". I then booted and the nvidia screen showed up but then once i got into kde 3.2, the screen froze. Then I saw the information on the forum about editing the agp information in the file. So I added the Option "NvAGP" "3", under the Driver "nvidia" line, and rebooted, but it still froze, I changed the number from 0, then to 1, then to 2, all caused freezes, sometimes, while kde was starting, othertimes right after it started, and other times, right before kde would try to boot it would say setting up interprecess communication, and freeze threre. I have no idea what to change now, and any help would be appreciated.

Possible causes

Have you checked that /dev/nvidia0 and /dev/nvidiactrl have been created?

Look in the readme for this, and also something about PAM getting things wrong. Haven't got the time to look them up myself at the moment but I went through the same thing last week.

Also, try the "nv" driver. Replace "nvidia" with "nv" and reverse the glx and dri changed you made in XF86Config-4. NOTE: the file to edit is that one, not XF86Config.
