Newbie - Urgent - I have no idea

Hello,

I have installed Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1. (kernel 2.4.9-e.5) The problem is that

a) My reserach requuires that it to be on network and thus must have an entry in the host files (etc/hosts). The Network adapter not being installed by default. I have Intel Pro/100 VE Ethernet Card. But I cannot find the drivers.

b) I have got some drivers from intel website which may not be applicable.
When i try to make it, gives error that kernel source not found.

Now what should I do? I have to get the right drivers for the card and also get the kernel source. I do not know fif to hget them or is there any other way? or if I have to get them, where to get them from and especially how to install them?

Help, please - this is for my research. Just to get my network ready and from there i can take over?

Installing the kernel-source would be the first step. You won't be doing much research if you can't install anything. rpm -ivh kernel-source-X

Kernel Source Found but cannot find drivers

Hi,

I found the kernel source in the installation disk two and have installed it. But when i try to install the correct drivers i cannot find it.

I have intel pro 100/ve network adapter running on dell for RHL AD SVR 2.1. can someone suggest where to find the drivers and how to install and configure them?

Thanks

Hi,

That link does give information on how to install BUT not where to get the driver for such card.

Any suggestions as to where I can get the drivers?

pankajeshwara; on intel site did you only view the drivers available for ms/w? if no mention of drivers for linux then do contact intel for information
if they do have drivers for that device supporting linux. they may have can not hurt to ask and maybe they have except not easily displayed. worth the try.

with all respect, but that's explained in this howto..
you have to recompile the kernel.
this is explained in this howto as well as how to configure any hardware by kernel.
start once from /usr/src/linux with make menuconfig ... make sure u're root!
