Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Newbie - Setup Dual Monitors

I installed Redhat 9 2 days ago. This is my first time with linux. I have 2 video cards (ATI Radeon 7000 and ATI Rage 128). Linux sees them both in the hardware browser so I know they are working right. What I need to know now is how to set up Linux to use them both in the same way that (I hate even saying the word) WinXP extends the desktop onto my second monitor.

I have a similar setup, but with an NVIDIA dual-output card, so that probably won't help you. Your best bet is to use Xinerama, though.

As to WinXP...It may be annoying and frequently worse than useless, but it's hardware detection is sometimes good enough to give you hope for your linux setup. I have a somewhat odd configuration, and I probably would have given up hope if I hadn't already seen the same configuration working in WinXP.
