Newbie needs help with installing soundcard driver on thinkpad
I am new to linux. I recently aquired the use of an IBM Thinkpad 770ED 9549-5AU. I then downloaded and installed Redhat Linux 9. The install went perfectly.
My only problem so far is I have no access to the sound card. Whenever someone logs in an error message box is displayed complaining about the fact that "the device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)". I checked and there is an entry under /dev for dsp.
I located and read a Linux Sound-HOWTO webpage and based on what it states and what I found on my system I should have access to the sound card, but I don't.
The "uname" command tells me that the version of linux I am running is 2.4.20-8.
Does anyone out there have any ideas/suggestions ?
