newb help w/hp 1100 on parallel port


I cant seem to find my parallel port. im using mandrake 10.0 now. Is there a simple way to check and see if the os even sees the port? the gui stuff doesnt seem to work. Any help would be great thanks.

Your parallel port will be /dev/lp or /dev/lp0. Mine is lp0 and it's the only printer I have on my system.

yea i fiugred that but when i try to mount it i get:

mount: cant find /dev/lp in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

what should i do? thanks

You don't mount it. You just add your printer in your print manager by using lp or lp0 as the path to your printer URI.

In your menu you should find a link somewhere that says print manager or add printer. That's how you set up your printer if it is not automatically recognized.

k i did that and it doesnt find the printer, which is on a parallel port. maybe the parallel port is bad?

If could be your type of printer. I can't get my printer recognize either because it doesn't have a linux driver and it's an out of date printer.
