New speccy video card meets linux...

Hey all,

Any game or 3d freaks that can recommend a current (new) top notch video card that works painlessly with XFree86?

I've a Voodoo5 that is to be demoted to my other less glorious machine and I want a card that can work well with XFree86 v4.

Cheers for any suggestions...

Owen.

Geforce2mx400 32meg Made by Power Color
It's what I use. It may be a little slow compaired to the 64meg models and the Geforce3+4's, But It works great and is now cheap, around $50 and lower.
Never had a real problem installing the Nvidia drivers from source.
Any of the Geforce Cards should work good as long as they are of good manufacture. Check out www.pricewatch.com

Geforce4 sounds nice, I've heard of folks having trouble with Nvidia cards in Xfree though. is this the rule or the exception???

The Nvidia drivers are so easy to install that almost all the fun is gone dunno why some people cant get it to work.

painlessly! hehe hoho hehe, tell me another one. No really, I don't game that much, but for 3d or just more or less fat graphics:

Uh... a GLX card? No, don't own a sparc? Okay...

One of the dual headed Matrox cards; two monitors? Huge screen resolution, incredible XFree support. Really its hard to argue with Nvidia these days, but I just wanted to suggest an underdog option.

Cheers,

Finegan

ahh man once you're used to dual head linux you'll never go back. Feels like i've got tunnel vision when i have to use a single monitor now! those matrox ones can get a bit pricey tho... btu i think that that includes a lot of the software costs (e.g. the g450e) oem versions probaly are a lot cheaper. personally i jsut use a gf400mx and a sis6326 for the dual head experience tho... but i need a video out on my next card tho... need to be able to copy my divx films onto video!
